About The Course

Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with, and relates to, other people. It also affects how they make sense of the world around them. This one day course aims to offer an insight into diagnosis and assessment of individuals with Autism and examine strategies to enable and support them with everyday living.

  • The Equality Act 2010 and the duty to make “reasonable adjustments.”
  • Characteristics,
  • Focus on Asperger’s syndrome,
  • Social behaviour and communication issues for young people.
Understanding behaviour and supporting young people and adults with Autism including:
  • Behaviour that challenges.
  • Building self esteem.
  • Links with anxiety and depression.
  • Food issues.
  • Rigidity.
  • Sensitivity issues.

Techniques to assist:

  • Use of social stories,
  • Modelling,
  • Social Skills groups,
  • Non verbal communication,
  • Emotional Responses,
  • Strategies to help,
